Switzer Canyon Trail Description

The Switzer Canyon Trail extends between Gemini Drive just south of Buffalo Park and Turquoise Drive near Ponderosa Parkway. The trail follows an abandoned portion of Cedar Avenue along an aggregate surface (north of Forest Avenue), climbing to the top of the mesa and ending near the U.S. Geological Survey Observatory at the entrance to Buffalo Park.

South of Forest Avenue the Switzer Canyon Trail is paved and parallels Turquoise Drive through an open stand of ponderosa pine scattered with oak. The trail intersects the Cedar Trail at Turquoise Drive and Forest Avenue and the Arizona Trail at Buffalo Park. A separate 0.25-mile segment of the Switzer Canyon Trail runs south of Ponderosa Parkway near the YMCA.

Parking and Trail Access

To access the Switzer Canyon Trail, you can park at Buffalo Park or at the Flagstaff Parks & Recreation Offices at the end of Cedar Avenue where it crosses Turquoise Drive.
