Print Friendly MapThe Swords Park Trail offers beautiful views of Billings and the Yellowstone Valley on a paved route of nearly 4 miles through the northern end of town. Springtime is especially pleasant with wildflowers blooming along the trail. Trailside benches and picnic tables provide places to rest and enjoy the scenery.
A highlight of your trip will be Swords Park, offering a scenic natural setting crisscrossed with walking paths and historic sites such as Boothill Cemetery, dating back to the late 1800s.
From the eastern end of the trail, you can also connect to the 2-mile Alkali Creek Trail, or the shorter Aronson Avenue Trail.
Head west and you'll travel along the sandstone formation known as Rimrocks (or The Rims) and then parallel the south side of Billings Logan International Airport.
Two parking lots are available off Airport Road: one at N. 27th Street and the other at Rimtop Drive. Limited parking is also available at Boothill Cemetery (off Aronson Avenue).
If you are riding in Billings don't miss this trail. There is a half mile long hill to get up on a ridge that overlooks the city.
Park at the parking lot at the pioneer cemetery behind Applebee's(204 Main), cross the street and the trail goes up the hill. If you go down the hill you end up at Alkali Creek trail.
Make sure to take a short (100 yards) detour one mile east end of the trailhead parking area to see the newly-opened Yellowstone Kelly Interpretive Site where frontiersman Yellowstone Kelly was buried. There are interpretive panels about the history of the area.
Skeleton Cliff, just a little further east, is the site of the Crow Tribe's burial area, where the dead were actually placed in the trees.

This Trail is very scenic overlooking Billings. The trail has some good hills so if you want flat this trail probably not for you.Cyclist make walkers aware of you they will give you room.
