Overview
The Timberdoodle Trail runs along a former railroad corridor through the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge for 2.3 miles. It is accessible at its northern end and at a trailhead along the route, but the southern end of the trail is a dead end in the woods. The trail surface is a mix of gravel, crushed stone, grass, and dirt.
About the Route
The northern end of the trail is on Bassett’s Bridge Road. It is possible to start slightly further north at Owens Station Crossing (136 Owens Station Rd, Sussex), where there is an ADA accessible boat launch for kayaks or canoes, a dock for fishing, a pavilion with picnic tables, and public restrooms.
Heading south from the Bassett’s Bridge Road, the rail-trail runs through forested bottomlands and wetlands. There is a trailhead with parking where the rail-trail crosses Kelly Road. The southern end of the trail is a dead end in the woods.
Connections
The Timberdoodle Trail connects to the Liberty Loop Trail. Continue north along the pathway to the Owens Station Crossing to reach the southern end of the Liberty Loop Trail.
