Description:
The Urban Trail System in St. Joseph, MO, is a multi-use trail network that links the city from north to south, providing access for cyclists, walkers, joggers, inline skaters and wheelchair users. The trail includes greenways and uses bike-friendly streets along the parkway system. Sidewalks are also available where the trail is either incomplete or not available. The trail branches in many places and a bridge safely flies over I-29.

The rolling topography (also with flat, shady sections) make the trail system popular for all users and links many of the city's ammenities, including Bode Ice Arena and the new Activity Center. The Eugene Field Monument on Lover's Lane recounts the poetry of Eugene Field. You can also fish at Corby Pond or access King Hill (just off the trail) to stand where Chief White Cloud stood in the 1830s.

The Urban Trail continues to grow within St. Joseph, creating access to neighborhoods, shopping and work places. Future segments will focus on re-acquiring former rail corridors through the hearts of various neighborhoods. The Urbran Trail System may also one day link to places outside of the St. Joseph metropolitan area. Longterm plans include connecting to the Wabash Trace in Iowa, the Katy Trail in Kansas City and the Nebraska Trails via the former Union Pacific line in Kansas.

The main north/south segment is about 9 miles from Krug Park to Hyde Park, with extensions here and there. Some of the trail passes through residential areas with bike-friendly streets and also sidewalks.

Parking & Trail Access:
You can access the Urban Trail System throughout St. Joseph. At the northern terminus, park at Krug Park, 3500 St. Joseph Avenue (U.S. 59 Highway) or at the fountain; from here follow the parkway east, cross St. Joseph Avenue, pass over a short bridge. The trail starts at Ferndale (on your left).

Hyde Park is located at 8th and Hyde park Avenue. Picnic facilities are located throughout the system, as well as access to water fountains.
