Description
The Vestal Rail Trail runs for 2.1 miles through the town of Vestal along an abandoned right-of-way once used by the DelawareLackawana & Western Railroad. Today the 12-foot-wide trail is paved for bicyclists, inline skaters and wheelchair users (the trail is fully ADA accessible). An 8-foot-wide unpaved surface runs adjacent to the trail for walkers and joggers. As of 2012, plans are underway to extend the trail an additional 1.8 miles to the west.
The trail provides the perfect alternative for non-motorized travel, allowing access to shopping, schools and neighborhoods. Restrooms are available at both end points.
Parking and Trail Access
Parking is available at both ends of the trail: 20 spaces are found at the east end (off African Road) and 10 spaces are found at the west end (off Stage Road).
