Description

The 7-mile Yampa River Core Trail follows the Yampa River from Walton Pond (near the Forest Service offices) north to Shield Road near where it crosses the river. The trail parallels US 40 through a corridor of cottonwoods. Along the way you'll find picnic spots, benches and scenic overlooks. The trail provides access to Steamboat Springs and city parks. In addition, there is plenty to see and do in the vicinity.

Parking and Trail Access

Park off 13th Street near the library, at nearby Little Toots Park on 12th Street, at the ballfields at the end of Howelsen Parkway, at the park at the end of Pamela Lane, at the end of Tree Haus Road and off US 40/Lincoln Avenue where the trail nears the road.
