Yellow River Trail Description

Although only a half-mile long, the Yellow River Trail is Newton County’s first rail-trail and offers a serene and scenic experience under a lush tree canopy. It opened in December 2015 and is nestled along the Porterdale waterfront, about 35 miles east of Atlanta. The charming community has three historical mills, dozens of historical homes, and many old landmarks worth exploring.

The paved pathway begins at a turn-of-the-century depot just off Main Street and ends at Yellow River Park. A 7-mile water trail is nearby and provides a popular place for kayaking and canoeing in the slow-moving river.

Parking and Trail Access

Limited parking is available in Yellow River Park. From Porterdale’s Main Street, turn onto Hemlock Street and follow it past the railroad depot for less than half a mile to the access road for the park.
