Clarksburg Branch Line Trail Description

The Clarksburg Branch Line Trail in West Sacramento runs between Jefferson Boulevard at S. River Road and Gregory Avenue where S. River Road loops around and returns. The surface is crushed concrete but plans are to pave the northern segment (between Muscovy Rd. and S. River Rd.) in spring 2012; there are also plans to build a bridge that would link the trail with River City High School.

The trail occupies a former right-of-way of the Sierra Northern Railroad and runs for a little more than 3 miles. The city purchased a total of 9.8 miles of the right-of-way so that they trail can eventually be continued.

Parking and Trail Access

Access the northern end just south of the barge canal. There is parking at the end of River Road (where it intersects Jefferson Blvd.). To get to the trail from here, cross to the southeast side of Jefferson Boulevard at the River Rd intersection. You can also access the trail from a connector path off Stonegate Drive or park along Washington Blvd., where the trail crosses the road.

Clarksburg Branch Line Trail Reviews

Half gravel, half paved

Great for anything except a road bike

SHORT

while riding my bike on this trail. I could probably hold my breath from begging to end on it. it is about a one minute 2 minute bike ride. and that just slowly peddling with one hand on my handle bars.

****all gravel, nice shade,nice trail

we went yesterday and rode the trail it was a total of 6.5 miles. it is all gravel and rocks and there are some areas where it is just hard dirt. the west sacramento city website says they should be pavin git sometime in 2011. the entire trailis lined with trees so there is nice shade. i will definetly do this trail again. good trail to jog or walk dog, or ride mountain bikes.
