High Trestle Trail

High Trestle is a Highlight

June, 2024 by djmmsherman

We parked our car on the western side of the trail in Woodward and biked east towards the bridge and Madrid, went as far as Sheldahl (the town just past Slater) and turned around. Surface is cement, so easy and flat biking. Noticeable “no see ‘ums” on the trail, so bring a bandana or keep talking to a minimum! Bring water and pack in/pack out what you need. No water stations or fountains that we saw on our portion of the ride. Very windy in the open parts. Spectacular bridge -- glorious by day and lit up at night. We went back to the bridge at dusk, parking the small parking lot at Madrid and walked 1 mile or so to the bridge. Lovely trail and the bridge is a highlight -- a must do!

Beaver Creek Greenbelt Trail

amazing

Even though it was a little hilly it was still really nice

Neal Smith Trail

Needs maintanance

June, 2024 by shardog3212

Have been a frequent walker on the Neil Smith Trail in the Prairie Flower area in Polk City. It is a great trail to walk with my dogs and has always been well maintained. Until this year. All of the trails are completely over grown and very difficult to treck through. Really hoping this will change soon!

Beaver Creek Greenbelt Trail

great trail!

May, 2024 by yjj8ggvqzd

This is a great trail as you’re walking on it. It’s hard to believe that you’re kinda in the city still. The only thing is bicyclist sometimes do not let you know when they are coming up on you. Other than that, it’s a very clean and very nice trail.

Johnston Interurban Trail

great ride

May, 2024 by sj442spt2r

This trail is in great shape. Once you get to 62nd, you can go west to 62nd, and then around Terra Park. Or you can continue north up to 70th, which has a wide bike path parallel to the road.

Northwest 62nd Avenue Trail

Safe connecting trail

Great width of concrete to ride on- links to great trails around Terra park.

Linn Creek Recreational Trail

pretty nice

Rode this trail in December seems really nice to me. I almost didn’t go because of the negative reviews, I guess these items have been repaired because I had no complaints.

Old Creamery Nature Trail

A great opportunity to get away from the stresses of modern life

November, 2023 by jkbalk

I've run on the Old Creamery Nature Trail several dozen times per year for over a decade. As trails go it is well kept, and was even resurfaced a few years ago. When there has been a lot of rain, or after a winter thaw, there can be some muddy areas but those tend to be minimal and are not very common. The Vinton side of the trail is usually in slightly better condition than the Dysart side. Both the Vinton and Dysart ends of the trail are bounded by open farmland. The middle section of the trail for miles on either side of Garrison is mostly wooded and usually provides a chance to spot some wildlife. I've frequently seen eagle, owl, hawk, pheasant, turkey, deer, fox, groundhog, possum, raccoon, coyote and occasionally even a person or two. My experience is that the section from Vinton to Garrison will have a few people on it about half of the time when the weather is nice, but Dysart to Garrison sees almost no traffic so it presents an ideal opportunity for solitude if you are so inclined.

Lone Tree Road Trail

Necessity to connect trails

November, 2023 by mann.ambere

Connects the Big Woods loop trail with Black Hawk Park. Well maintained and paved, the trail runs alongside Lone Tree Road in a straight line. It’s not shaded at all, so it can be a nice sunny reprieve from the wooded trails it connects, or sweltering, depending on the weather.

Red Rock Prairie Trail

I had to drive around to find the parking for this trail. It's at the water tower...corner of Monroe and York. There is a Porta potty at the beginning of the trail. I don't see any shade but it's only in the 70s so going to give it a try.

Volksweg Trail

Absolutely beautiful trail!

September, 2023 by niffenegger6

We entered from the west end, not far from the Cordoba Tower. We rode with our granddaughter on a tag along. We only went about 6 miles and turned around as that is good for a four year-old. The trails were smooth with gentle hills and great views of the lake. The tower is a fun added bonus. We will return later in the fall.

High Trestle Trail

Great Trail, Great Experience - A Must See Trail

August, 2023 by jsafret

This was the first stop in our 2023 "Tour de Great Plains & Colorado" bike trip. We rode this trail east 10 miles from the western most trailhead "Woodward, Iowa". The trail was perfect concrete about 10 feet wide and mostly flat. The trestle is amazing and Iowa is beautiful. The Flat Tire Lounge in Madrid is a perfect place to stop and grab a bite to eat and a drink. It was a wonderful day and a great experience. We're off to a great start!!!
