Thieves at Gainesville trailhead

February, 2017 by magnusdalen

We've biked this trail several times by parking at Hawthorne trailhead. Great trail. In late August thieves broke into our car when parking at Gainesville trailhead by smashing out two windows. The police say that break-ins frequently happen at the Gainesville trailhead. Therefore I recommend that you do not park at the Gainesville trailhead.

Missing dog

February, 2017 by hollyvcampbell

One of our dogs were found on the bike trail 2/3/17 chocolate lab/tree Walker. We are still looking for our male pointer he is white with dark spots and dark head. He has a camo collar and tag but I'm hoping even if anyone has seen him they can direct me where to look. His name is Thor. My number is 386-503-4894 please call me; don't comment here because I'll never see it. He is so missed. Please help me find him.

Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail-Trail

Peacefull

January, 2017 by den2046

I walked this trail before but started from the Jacksonville end. This time I started from the Baldwin end of the trail. In your picture (view) you do mention an address for the Baldwin end the correct address is listed on the board as 89 Brady Branch Rd. The trail was even more quite and had more wilderness than the Jacksonville side. The bench at the 8.5 mile had a broken frame and a missing trek slat on the seat, but was okay to sit on. I will most likely return to the Jacksonville-Baldwin Trail it was enjoyable to walk it from either end.

Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail

Cool and hot path

January, 2017 by den2046

The correct parking lot address is 6065 S Twinlake Rd. I walked this about 1 PM. I took the path to the left coming out of the parking lot. The path was not to noisy the first 2 plus miles but then the path curved next to the highway which was pretty noisy specially that time of day. It also changed from asphalt to cement for about a mile then back to asphalt. The was lots of coverage with trees from the sun when the path was asphalt but no coverage when it was asphalt. The was not really any mile markers to speak of but the path way was free from debris.

Black Creek Trail

Pleasant

January, 2017 by den2046

The walk was pleasant. At first not to noisy but after about half a mile the path was closer to US17 highway. I was walking at about 9am when traffic was not so bad. After awhile the traffic did not really bother me more like white noise in the background. The trail was nice to walk on mostly asphalt but there was a couple places about 3 miles in there was lots of wet leaves. The mile markers marked at every quarter mile was more incentive to walk. Someone had skidded several times over mile marker 2.5 removing some of the number. It was not a problem walking pass several of the crossings for me although I could see if you had to stop and start with a bike it could be annoying.

Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail-Trail

Good walking path

January, 2017 by den2046

I started off from the Jacksonville parking area which has large parking spaces. I walked about 4 miles toward Baldwin about a mile and a half past the electric grid and back. About 3 and a half mile in there was a stench in a couple places that smelled like dead animals. The walk was very pleasant and peaceful, although you do cross some roads but they are not busy at all, no noise and very woodsy feeling but very straight clean and well maintained. There was also trees on both sides that provided some decent shade from the sun. Although there was mostly bikers everyone was friendly and courteous.

Black Creek Trail

Almost got hit by a car - be careful

December, 2016 by meckayel

This trail is rather beautiful and has great potential, but it is simply way too dangerous! There are several busy intersection with multiple lanes. The light turned as I was crossing one of them. The outer drivers saw me and remained stopped but not the middle driver who was just pulling up. He floored his gas pedal as soon as he saw green nearly killing me. Thank God I was going slowly and was able to hit my brakes as he zoomed by. I felt I was taking a huge risk too many times. If you head out, go very early in the morning, when traffic will be lightest. Be extra careful and consider walking your bike across those crazy intersections.

Ichetucknee to O'Leno Trail

great combo ride potential

December, 2016 by noplea

I am an avid paddler and biker. Recently traveled to this area to do some paddling and was delighted to discover that this trail links Oleno State park and the end of the Ichnetucknee paddling trail. Since I often do solo trips I am always searching for trips that provide the potential for both biking and paddling without the necessity of a shuttle. The paddle was beautiful and though I did not bike the trail I paralleled it on my drive back to Oleno park and it appeared to be a very ridable bike route which led from the take out back to my camp site.

Black Creek Trail

Too much vehicle traffic

December, 2016 by covington_gary

I like to ride these trails because it's quieter than riding on the roads and I get some good exercise out of it. I got neither of them while riding this trail. I had to stop more times than I care to count for every little driveway on the trail, not to mention the major intersections, to keep an eye on cars that may or may not be paying attention to a biker on the path. It is also VERY noisy, with constant traffic from an extremely busy roadway that is close by. I have ridden several other trails that parallel a highway, but none are as busy and congested as US 17. Will not be going back.

Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail

Lovely ride on a great trail

December, 2016 by csgress

We rode 42 miles round-trip from Roberts Lane (easy to park) to Keystone Heights today. This was from endpoint to endpoint, with a look around in Keystone Heights. It is a well-marked, well-maintained trail, shaded in most areas. We carried our own water and stopped for lunch at Keystone Heights Hometown Restaurant for more of the local flavor.
