Very calming trail with little to no traffic at 7pm.

Mount Vernon Trail

Scenic, bad condition

Wonderfully scenic but woefully in need of maintenance. Congress cuts National Park Service funding so rich people don’t have to pay taxes.

Great trail, watch out for speeding cyclists

Only did part of the trail from Herndon to Reston. Just watch out for the ‘Lance Armstrong’ wanna bees. Most of them do alert they are coming to your left, so stay to your right and you should be ok.

Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail (VA)

can’t even find parking

The map gave us the start of the trail. But, it was in a neighborhood and there was no parking at all.

Arlington Loop

A good ride then & probably better now

February, 2024 by davesnyder1622

I enjoyed this loop in 2016 or so and just learned it has a name. Nice mix of environments with plenty of available lunch or coffee stops and scenic waterfront, linear greenway and wooded areas. Some spots were challenging, even dicey then, and I would expect they’ve been improved if this is a designated path.

Its train inspired playground is a fan favorite in my family. It also has a nice 9 hole frisbee golf course. It has a bathroom.

It took just over 90 minutes. What a great time!

Mount Vernon Trail

Mt Vernon Trail

Rode from Mt Vernon toward DC , 16 miles out and back with temps in high 40s in mid December, midweek. Love this trail! Beautiful views of Potomac; nice variety of flat and hilly terrain through urban and forested areas. Impressed by “bike patrol” checking in on my stop. 4 star review due to tree root bumps (mostly marked), and close proximity to Memorial High ( constant humming of cars passing).

Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail

Bumpy!

December, 2023 by zx8q54srfm

As others have said - this trail is very bumpy. Much of the trail still has railroad ties going across it. I did on a touring bike and even deflated the tires partway into the trail. I still called it after 8 miles. Just not much fun. Hope they will improve it a bit sometime because I lived the countryside and overhanging tree branches etc. Really beautiful. Good walking trail or mountain bikes.

I started my experience at the trailhead of the charming and historic town of Purcellville at 7:30 on a Saturday morning in late October. I only went about six miles, but was surprised at the amount of fitness minded people using the trail so early in the day. It was primarily walkers and runners, but every now and then serious speed demons on their bikes would race past me. It's certainly a good trail for building up speed.

As for me, a tourist from California, I was moving along the trail moderately so as to take advantage of as many photo ops as possible. I especially enjoyed the fall colors, rolling hills of farm and pasture land, and some historic, vintage buildings. The stately country homes were absolutely stunning! I wish I'd had more time to explore more of this trail further!

Great Ride with my brother to raise awareness and support homeless veterans

October, 2023 by ragman_tl

The trail is great starting at Cumberland. Pretty smooth and scenic. Not very far in there were quite a few detours as the trail was damaged in many places. I wish there had been more amenities along the trail. The last 40 miles into DC were surprisingly bad, with muddy rough conditions and detours. The trip was memorable and challenging and we were proud to raise money for theplummerhome.org for homeless veterans.
