Elephant Swamp Trail

Unique, Special, and Contrasting Trail

December, 2016 by rcpat

I hit this trail the summer of 2015 upon the recommendation from a fellow biker. The trail was different from what I was used too. The trail is mostly dirt with wood chips on top. Some parts are gravel. The first part is dense with woods and swamps. Then all of sudden, you are in farm field of corn. This just blew me away. The trail is very isolated. So you might want to ride with a friend. Also, it can be muddy in spots.
This trail deserves to be used. I have a special fondness for this trail.

Pleasantville to Somers Point Bike Path

Good Bike Path is Getting Better

November, 2016 by jmr555

This is a wonderful bike path that connects four cities along Shore Road in Atlantic County. The path is well maintained and heavily used. Improvements are planned on both end of the path. In Pleasantville, a State grant will fund the installation of LED lighting in areas that are currently not lit. In Somers Point, grant funds will be used to complete the "missing link" a new section of the bike path that will connect it to the Route 52 Causeway into Ocean City. A grant will also the widening of the bike path in Somers Point to ten feet and the installation of new LED decorative lighting.

Elephant Swamp Trail

Nice and easy trail

October, 2016 by stevemchugh

It has great shade and is well kept plus not used too much. I keep going back to it because the 9 mile round trip is perfect for me. It's easy to miss parking lot so go slow for the last mile. if you use google make sure you type in Elephant Swamp Nature Trail. If you leave out Nature ... It takes you to a different place. Could get boring if you want to be challenged.

Kinkora Rail Trail

Pleasant surprise

September, 2016 by mjwmjw7340

I was very pleased to hear that Mansfield Twp. had completed the rail trail/ bike path at the park. I took my first ride today and really enjoyed myself. Looking for to when it connects to Springfields trail which I road on last week. I was told that they will one day connect to Pembertons trail. This will make for a great ride.
Thanks for all the hard work!

Cape Henlopen State Park Bike Loop

Cape Henlopen Bike Loop

Great paved trail around the Cape Henlopen State Park! A few small hills, but otherwise flat. A mix of shade and sun, this trail also connects to the Gordon Pond Trail to get you into Rehobeth Beach to the south. Lots of wild life, and the view from the Fort Miles battery is worth the small climb up the feeder trail.
Also, the feeder path up to "The Point" will reward you with fantastic views of the Delaware Bay and the Dunes of Cape Henlopen

Monroe Township Bikeway

Best. Bike Trail. Ever.

It's long, straight, smooth, clean, scenic...everything you'd want a bike trail to be.

If it were 100 miles long, I'd make every effort to traverse the whole thing. Six miles and some change is a good length to go to one end and back in a couple hours. Plenty of places to stop and rest, eat a snack. I also love how it starts in a little downtown area, goes through a quaint park and next to a middle school, and then into the forest. It's the best bike trail I've been on thus far.

Barnegat Branch Trail

Inconsistent

As others have noted, this trail isn't complete. And before you head out on it, it's hard to know exactly which parts are complete and which aren't. There's even an impassible stream right in the middle of the trail. It's almost shallow enough to wade across, but we had a pet trailer with us that wouldn't have made it. There's a broken down railroad trestle that one might walk across if he/she didn't have bikes and pets to worry about. The only way around the thing is to take a detour down to route 9 and ride on the street for a quarter mile or so, at parts there's no shoulder and cars zip past just inches from your bikes.

Sections of the trail are tall grass with two sets of tire ruts, some sections are fairly deep sand that's really difficult to bike on, and some sections are very nice shallow gravel. As the trail crosses certain streets, some of these intersections don't even have ramps for bikes yet. One must hop the curb to continue on the trail.

I thought some of the finished sections might be paved, but only very small portions are paved around certain intersections and when the trail goes through shopping areas.

But still, overall, it's a fun ride with a lot of potential. Long, scenic, and in a great location.

Kinkora Rail Trail

Great ride

We stumbled on the new section of train from Columbus out to Island Rd. Nice smooth easy ride. Plenty of room to pass and a nice ride through the woods and fields. Saw some deer and a pair of foxes so far. Scattered benches and some picnic tables halfway would make for a break area. Can't wait for more trail to open!

United States Avenue Trail

So Many Options

May, 2016 by mitchpeiffer

This trail offers many options for walking, biking, or running. If you are willing to explore and cross roads, you can customize your trail experience and utilize a diverse network of paths. For instance, you can begin on the U.S. Ave trail which is a straight and flat gravel/asphalt mix. You can branch off into the Blueberry Hill woods trails which offer a mix of hilly asphalt and dirt trails. You can branch off into the Lindenwold Memorial Park complex which offers 2 different but connecting asphalt loops as well as a fitness circuit. You can cut through the park complex to get to the back entrance to the Lindenwold High School track if you want to incorporate this into your experience. You can follow U.S. Ave trail up toward Gibbsboro and cross onto the Paintworks loop which is a roughly 1/2 mile asphalt trail around a lake with ducks and other wildlife. Any or all of these sections can be combined to change the length and diversity of your walk/bike/run and add a challenge or some scenery to your experience. I have been using this trail 1-3 times per week for over a year and I have not gotten tired of the combination of options that are available. I have varied my runs from 1/2 mile up to 5.5 miles without having to cover any path twice and without traveling more than 1.5 miles away from where my car is parked. I hope to explore different directions to find out just how many more paths I can find to incorporate into my trail experience.
