Coon Creek Regional Trail

our first ride of 2024

March, 2024 by plyman38

We started our ride at the coon Rapids dam and took it all the way up to Bunker Hills Park. It was one of the more interesting rides of our 1100 mile total so far. I like being close to the river, really pretty sights Lots of turns and slight hills, very easy to maneuver. Perfect first season ride with my buddy. I would recommend this trail to anybody and I’m gonna go on it a few more times at least. We will probably go in different seasons just to see the changing forest around us. Really nice trail. Good quality.

Gandy Dancer Trail (Southern Section)

Quality of the trail bed was substandard in 2021

September, 2023 by bskov

This was a pretty rough trail when we rode it on our recumbent trikes. It seemed designed for snowmobiles and walkers. I hope it has been graded better. I would not ride it again in the condition it was in. Particularly with so many better trails not far way by Stillwater, MN.

Great Northern Trail

Twice we've taken this trail for a Sunday outing from Woodland Park in Elk River to Zimmerman, enjoying a light lunch @ D's Smokehouse & then back. Can't wait for the continued expansion north.

Soo Line Trail (Northern Route)

not for bikes

August, 2023 by rranguette

We hopped onto the trail in McGregor and we’re very disappointed with the trail. It’s a mixture of large rocks and sandy soil. Probably better for all terrain vehicles and snow mobiles, not suitable for bikes.

Soo Line Recreational Trail

Worse maintained Trail in the state

August, 2023 by bgau

Morrison County does a terrible job maintaining the trail. If you don’t remove fallen branches yourself, it won’t get done. During the last two summers, I have experienced most of the major trails in the state. I see all sorts of conditions, including smoothness of the trail to debris not removed. Lake Wobegon Trail, which is located mainly in Stearns County, is one of the best maintained trails in the state. The Root River Trail is also one of the best. I do not recommend the Soo Line Trail due to lack of maintenance.

Rice Creek North Regional Trail

good not great trail

August, 2023 by hayleykulstad

The beginning of the trail in Shoreview is nice but then you have to go in streets for quite a while and then it actually cuts off for a block or so. The trail is closed on the north end too. Trail is smooth at times but mostly bumpy.

Great Northern Trail

newly paved!

August, 2023 by ellencstoehr

I just went for my first road bike experience yesterday on this trail, driving to zimmerman to hop on it. To my luck, I came to find it was newly paved! It’s a lovely route to elk River and I actually think it may be closer to 8 or 9 miles one way, according to mile markers. The only down side is the stretch of land east to the elk River landfill…depending on which way the wind is blowing, it can be stinky. I can’t wait to bike again!

Soo Line Trail (Southern Route)

Poor Maintenance

July, 2023 by bgau

From highway 10 (Soo Line Trailhead) to the Morrison County/Stearns County line, the trail has not been maintained the past few years. The cracks don’t get repaired, debris doesn’t get blown off, big branches don’t get removed for days, dogs are off leashes. I had to remove a large branch that was blocking the trail for at least a week. The Morrison County maintenance crew needs a lesson from the Stearns County crew.

Coon Creek Regional Trail

Scenery in the Metro

July, 2023 by jarad.jackson

This is a very nice way to connect the Coon Rapids Dam to Bunker Hills Park. It sounds along Coon Creek much of the way and you could easily forget it’s within a major metro area. It’s a little hard to navigate with all the splits and turns, but is a great ride. It’s also in the woods much of the way, so it’s good on a hot or windy day.

Soo Line Trail (Southern Route)

Rough bike trail in places

July, 2023 by bethw67

Lots of rocks kicked up from ATV side when bike riding and a lot of cracks and holes in the trail. It was fun but not as fun when ATVs were frequently riding on the paved part. We expected them to keep left but apparently it’s common for them to keep right?

Ox Cart Trail

Nice shaded walk, under the Bridge of Hope

July, 2023 by johnand1951

Doesn’t seem to be heavily used. The surface is pretty rough and it could use some signage. Part of it is next to the railroad tracks which is not shaded and the train that went through when we were there was going quite fast.
