We welcome your suggestions for multi-use trails to add to the website. In order to keep TrailLink within our current capacity, please read the criteria for inclusion below before submitting your trail. If you have any questions about this process, please contact TrailLinkSupport@railstotrails.org.
Criteria for inclusion on TrailLink
Open: Trails must be open for public use to be listed on the site. If you want to inform us of a rail-trail under development, you can send an email to email@example.com.
Length: Minimum length of 0.5 mile.
Usage: We're looking for multi-use trails only that accommodate a variety of trail-goers; for example, hiking -only trails will not be accepted.
Physicality: We're looking for off-road, on-the-ground trails, as opposed to on-road bike routes and conceptual walking tours.
Surface: We prefer trails with a fully developed surface, rather than rough-hewn dirt footpaths or single-track mountain bike trails.
Connectivity: We prefer linear trails that can be used for transportation and commuting in addition to recreation. We're looking for trails that connect people to schools, workplaces, shopping areas, etc., as opposed to loop trails contained entirely within a park.
Individuality: We prefer trails that have a specific identifiable name and signage to that effect. If you're providing us with information on a trail system, please submit each individual trail within the system separately.
Mandatory fields to submit a new trail are indicated with an asterisk (*).
If you are uncertain about the Category, select Other Multi Use Trail.
Endpoints: Please provide street intersection and town names. Example: Main St. & Constitution Ave. (Omaha) to King Ave. and Park St. (Omaha)
State: If a trail crosses multiple states, please select all states in the state box.
County: If a trail crosses multiple counties, please select all counties in the counties box.
Description: in your own words, please describe the trail and what a user might discover along the way. Please do not plagiarize content from another source.
Directions: Please provide driving directions to at least one major access point along the trail, preferably one with a parking lot. You may include directions to multiple access points.
Rail-With-Trail? If you are submitting a rail-trail, you will be prompted with this Y/N question. Answer yes if the trail or a section of the trail runs adjacent to active railroad tracks.
