The Jane Hague Trail is the first of a series of trail segments to be constructed under the banner of the Eastside Rail Corridor (ERC), a rail-trail initiative run by King County and the cities of Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, Woodinville, and Renton. The trail to be built on a former BNSF freight corridor is meant to connect these communities as well as to existing trail systems.
At only one mile, Jane Hague Way already achieves this by serving as an important linkage between the Cross Kirkland Trail and the SR 520 Trail, which stretches west to University of Washington. The trail, which was named for a former King County councilwoman, was opened in the summer of 2018. Another 4-mile segment between Renton and Bellevue opened in September 2018.
