Print Friendly MapRunning north to south along the industrial Duwamish Waterway, the 3-mile Duwamish Trail is an important connector in southwest Seattle. Beginning a half mile south of the Alki Trail, the Duwamish Trail parallels W. Marginal Way for much of its route. Approaching its southern end, it heads under Highway 509, where it splits, ending in the Georgetown neighborhood to the north and the South Park neighborhood to the south.
You can park off W. Marginal Way just south of the bus station or a little farther south at Herring's House Park.
This trail is trying its best. It does have its bad moments, like being poorly marked and running alongside a busy road. We all have our faults. I appreciate the quirks and under rated ship yard, and industry views. Take the good with the bad, and set your biases aside and enjoy the down to earth, no fuss no muss trail.
Sadly, only the northern section through Herrings Park is away from terrible traffic.
"I have to agree with the previous reviewr. The trail feels rather nice on a bike, but the scenery leaves much to be desired (if you can call it scenery). I had a hard time accessing it the first time and wouldn't recommend taking the family on it."
"This is a well paved, nice trail, that starts no-where and ends no-where. It is hard to get to, as it starts after a half-mile ride down a well used truck route, and ends and at freeway intersection. You need to navigate neighborhoods to get to the connection of the Interurban, but it is the only way from West Seattle. If it is ever completed, it will be better than Burke-Gilman."
