Hetch Hetchy Trail (Modesto) Description

The Hetch Hetchy Trail extends diagonally through the northwestern portion of Modesto on the wide right-of-way of its namesake water pipeline, which runs underground in Modesto. Operated by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, the pipeline supplies water from the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park to the City by the Bay.

Power lines run overhead, but landscaping adds visual interest, while two scenic parks—Chrysler 99 Park and Wesson Ranch Park—offer opportunities to play and relax.

Parking and Trail Access

There are no dedicated parking areas for the Hetch Hetchy Trail, but parking may be found on-street where the trail crosses local roads.

Hetch Hetchy Trail (Modesto) Reviews

Nice and easy

Easy trail to ride or walk.

Don't go by yourself ladies

Great asphalt surface that runs from Tully to Sisk. Needs some policing and we see a lot of creepy guys just walking the trail with hands in their pockets. Had a scary incident where one guy on a bike and one standing in the path wouldn't move. We didn't stop but went on the grass around them quickly. Seriously do not walk or bike on this path alone.

Hetch-Hetchy Trail

About Three miles meandering under High Voltage Power Lines. Graffiti on walls and fences.
Passes by two nice parks, water and potties. Most of trail dry vegetation .
Short sections green through apartment housing and parks.
Trail has 4 sections of about 50-60 feet hard packed dirt. Asphalt in fine condition.
