Neptune Road Recreational Pathway Description

The Neptune Road Recreational Pathway, also known as the Bill Johnston Memorial Pathway, connects Kissimmee's Lakefront Park to St. Cloud in central Florida. The 10-foot wide trail exits the Kissimmee Lakefront Park and runs along the north side of Lakeshore Boulevard, turning southeast to follow Neptune Road. Brinson Park is at the corner of the two roads. The trail stays parallel to Neptune Road all the way east, crossing two bridges as it goes; one, over Florida Turnpike and later over canal C-33 where it enters St. Cloud. When you come to Old Canoe Creek, turn right for the final 1.8 miles of the trail.

The trail is part of the route of the Florida Trail, the 1300-mile trail concept across the state. The western end in Kissimmee also offers a connection to a segment of the Shingle Creek Regional Trail, a rapidly-developing trail system that will eventually run seamlessly from Lakefront Park all the way through Orange County to Wekiva Springs State Park.

Parking and Trail Access

In Kissimmee, you can park at the Lakefront Park (201 Lakeview Drive, Kissimmee). The 25-acre park sits on the north shore of Lake Tohopekaliga and celebrates the area’s rich environmental and Seminole heritage through native vegetation, artistic elements and interpretive signage. Amenities include picnic pavilions, a playground, splash zones, open fields, walking trails, a fishing pier and boat launch.

You can also park at the Partin Triangle Neighborhood Park across the Turnpike (2830 Neptune Road, Kissimmee). There’s parking, restrooms, a playground. You can also book airboat swamp boat rides there.

Neptune Road Recreational Pathway Reviews

on its way to something good

The northern portion is gorgeous with Waterview to the west and a nice ride through beautiful parks. I went a little further and did the regional trail just north of this one and it was absolutely beautiful but very short. The section after the high school heading north is dangerous for unsteady cyclist. The local community is actively working to improve this 3 to 5 mile section of trail Once that is complete the trail will be quite nice. The majority of the trail is a double wide sidewalk, so it is not good for a zone four or five ride. It is perfect for a leisure zone 2 ride. The Northern section is excellent for a family bike ride. On my way back heading south. I avoided the double wide sidewalk and rode the generous bike lane until it ended.

Unexpected Surprise

This is actually a very small slice of the famous Florida Trail/Eastern Continental Trail :)

Sidewalk on a busy road

Not a fun ride. Not sure how this is in the rails to trails guide, it would be fine if you needed to commute to work. All you hear is traffic and not much to see; trail is a little quieter once you get to the school. A lot of the pavement has roots, asphalt is in need of repair and there are poor transitions to the streets. Caution on the crosswalk as some cars ignore the crosswalk signal even while the lights are flashing. Lots of better trails to choose from in FL

not impressed

Trail is average.. no much to see.. 90% of the trail is next to a busy road... Trail is not road bike friendly... ok if you have mountain bike.. I will not recommend!!

Accordion

Not a real trail

It’s a nice area around the lake but not a nature trail at all.

Running

Good area for some training runs. Only good hill section is the bridge over the turnpike. Some sections of the paved route are being pushed up by tree roots so be careful if doing any night running. Also street crossings across Neptune Road can be a bit adventurous and time consuming. Not all the street crossing buttons work. No parking at the end of the route in Saint Cloud but I park at Partin Triangle Park and then jump on the trail since I live on the Saint Cloud side.

Great Job with this park City of Kissimmee!

2019.11.29 Black Friday, yep! Busy Shopping Centers & traffic...nope, NOT for this guy. I took my bicycle with me on an easy 20 minute urban train ride, from downtown Orlando to this BEAUTIFUL PARK in Kissimmee! The SunRail station is a short distance from Kissimmee Lakefront Park. FYI ...SunRail only operates during the weekdays. Ample Parking, Great for Bike rides, walks, jogging. I will return and explore the ride along side Neptune road

ride

It was a beautiful ride however several sections are in need of repairs
