Print Friendly MapModesto’s 2.7-mile Virginia Corridor Trailway is a suburban rail-trail well-used by walkers, runners, bicyclists, and families. Extending between Campus Way to the southwest and Woodrow Avenue to the north, the popular landscaped trail connects to many of the city’s residential neighborhoods, schools, parks, churches, and retail and dining establishments.
The trail is built on the former Tidewater Southern Railway corridor, which has been transformed into a premier linear park, trail, and recreational gathering place. The railway provided passenger service through the 1930s, when it transitioned primarily to freight.
The only trailhead and designated parking area is located in a shopping plaza near the midpoint of the trail, at West Roseburg Avenue. Here, visitors will find signage about the history of the railroad and the region’s agricultural roots. Trail users can choose to head north or south for an out-and-back trip. There are many road crossings along the route, but all are well-marked with stop signs and crossing signals.
The Stanislaus Regional Transit bus system provides access to the trail at multiple points along the route.
Limited parking for the Virginia Corridor Trailway is available in a dedicated parking lot next to the trail on W Roseburg Avenue. Access the parking lot from the main entry for the adjacent shopping center at 801-921 W. Roseburg Avenue.

Great family trail! Stopped and had lunch at O’Brien store very close to the trail.
I have been riding the trail for almost 4 years. It used to be my go to to get conditioning on my bike. I have put on over 4,000 miles since 2017, 3,000 on this trail. I love it. Most everyone is great, however, there is a major issue with people not picking up after their pets. The city provides doggie bags, it’s beyond me why people aren’t more respectful of this beautiful trail.
Asphalt, clean benches, landscaping, and lights make this Modesto’s “go to” trail. Lots of folks walk, run and bike here. Just like anywhere, carry a whistle in case you need help.
lack of watering vegetion dying due to lack of water. They are extending the trail from Bowen to Woodrow and planting new trees and vegetation. are not going to water tis new stretch. Can you check with theModesto Parks and Recreaton And see what they have
planed.
