Isaac Branch Greenway Trail Description

Part of an emerging network of trails in the Dover area called the St. Jones River Greenway, the Isaac Branch Greenway Trail offers over three miles of completed, paved trail, providing a mixture of pleasant recreation path and useful commuting route.

The trail begins in the north across from the southern end of the Capital City Trail along Highway 13, just a short distance away from the snaky path of the Saint Jones River. Heading along Public Safety Boulevard, the trail soon enters into a tranquil wooded corridor, continuing under the highway connector and running past a residential neighborhood to reach President Drive.

From there the trail runs south along State Route 1, but trail users are shielded from the busy nearby road by rows of trees, helping to mask the sight if not the sound of traffic. The newest section of trail continues on the southern side of State Route 10, where a short quarter-mile spur connects the trail with the Gateway South shopping mall.

Although it may not feature the scenic remove of some riverside trails, the Isaac Branch Greenway is an invaluable asset for cyclists and pedestrians looking to safely navigate the area's busy roads and highways and helps connect nearby residents with shops and restaurants while getting in some outdoor exercise.

Parking and Trail Access

About 0.3 miles along the trail from its southern endpoint, there is a small parking lot on the northwest side of Route 10/E Lebanon Road and across from the intersection with Pine Cabin Road.

Several bus routes in Dover's DART system have stops near points along the trail; visit the DART website for exact schedules and routes.

Isaac Branch Greenway Trail Reviews

My local favorite

This is a great trail, well maintained, connects to other trails and full of wildlife. I have walked biked and run this trail for over ten years and it's never crowded. There is a small parking area on the southern end at the Rt 10 trail head with direct access to the trail. It's my go to place to walk my dogs or a bike ride without traffic.
