Print Friendly MapThe Prairie Trail is a spur off the popular North Idaho Centennial Trail, a 24-mile scenic pathway from Coeur d'Alene to the Idaho–Washington state line. The paved spur travels northwest for 4 miles along a former Union Pacific Railroad corridor, connecting parks, neighborhoods, schools and businesses.
Riverstone Park at the southern end of the trail is a good place to begin your adventure; it offers picnic areas, restrooms and a beautiful lake with fountains. Several restaurants are also located nearby off Riverstone Drive. Farther up the trail, you'll traverse the western border of Ramsey Park, where you can find athletic fields, playgrounds, shaded picnic areas and restrooms.
The northern end of the trail opens up to offer views of rural landscapes. The trail ends at N. Huetter Road, but future plans call for extending the trail another mile west from here to Meyer Road.
Parking for the Prairie Trail is available at Riverstone Park (1805 Tilford Lane) and Ramsey Park (3525 N. Ramsey Road).
Flat and smooth, not exactly scenic - but it was a pleasant little ride.
Nice little spur from the Centennial Trail which allows access to some neighborhoods. It officially “dead ends” at Huetter - yet all the newer housing developments allow for going further into the Rathdrum Prairie and off the arterials that don’t have protected lanes (yet) /as well as away from commuters who aren’t always patient.
This trail was very enjoyable to skate - wide, smooth, mostly flat. Nice scenery through some wooded areas as well as farmland with hay bales. There is one section that goes next to some fences with signs that warn of gun shots, and I did hear a loud gunshot as I went by that made me jump.
