Riverside Park Trail (SD) Description

Located along the banks of the Missouri River in the city of Yankton, the appropriately-named Riverside Park Trail is a concrete, multi-use pathway that runs through the city's Riverside Park. The trail offers cyclists and pedestrians a pleasant path with ample views of the beautiful river ecosystem, as well as the charming community of Yankton, and connects to the Auld-Brokaw Trail, the anchor of Yankton's excellent trail system.

Starting in the west, the trail begins in the shadow of the Discovery Bridge, which was built to provide a span across the river to replace the nearby, aging Meridian Bridge - a historic vertical lift bridge that has now been converted into a trail for non-motorized use. Continuing along the river, you enter the heart of the park property, which is home to a variety of recreation activities and facilities - history buffs will want to check out a replica of the Dakota Territorial Capitol.

The trail continues along the perimeter of a water treatment facility, then turns away from the wide river to head north along the Marne Creek. This scenic natural corridor offers a pleasant trail experience, taking trail users along the eastern edge of downtown Yankton and up to the start of the Auld-Brokaw Trail, which continues to follow the creek for several miles through the community.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking and restrooms are available in Riverside Park, located at 200 Levee Street in Yankton. Additional parking is available at the Yankton Area Visitors Center, located along the trail at 803 E 4th Street.
