Print Friendly MapThe WE Energies Trail, so named because it uses a Wisconsin Energy Corporation utility corridor for much of its route, links Racine and Oak Creek in Racine and Milwaukee counties. Despite the presence of power lines, the trail’s journey through rolling hills in a strikingly verdant landscape is well worth the trip.
The northern end of the trail in Milwaukee County is paved, making it suitable for wheelchairs and inline skaters. In Racine County, the trail switches to a gravel surface, although it is generally packed well enough to accommodate all but the skinniest tire bikes.
To extend your trip, take Douglas Avenue/State Route 32 south from the WE Energies Trail’s southern endpoint to 6 Mile Road and turn left. Just past the railroad tracks is the northern trailhead for the MRK Trail, which travels into the heart of Racine.
Limited parking for the WE Energies Trail is available in Racine County at the trailhead on 7 Mile Road (next to the railroad tracks). In Milwaukee County, park at Haas Neighborhood Park on E. Elm Road. Take the road a short distance west to reach the northern trailhead.
If you are a trail collector like me, this trail isn't so bad. But once you hit Racine county, it goes from asphalt to crushed stone. You would rather bike on the adjacent Hwy. 32 because although it is hillier, it is paved(obviously).
