Wilden Avenue Trail

The Wilden Avenue Trail stretches for roughly 3 miles from the northern Goshen city limits to the community's downtown. In the north, the trail is a direct continuation of the MapleHeart Trail (and is occasionally referred to as part of that trail), which parallels active railroad tracks to the city of Elkhart. The trail is also an integral component in Goshen's Maple City Greenway network, which consists of 23 miles of open bike paths and trails.

The trail is immediately adjacent to Wilden Avenue—hence its name—as it continues south from Wakefield Road to Indiana Avenue. The route then cuts through and around Oakridge Park and Oakridge Cemetery before following Rock Run Creek for a short distance to just past N. Main Street. At the trail's eastern end, it directly links with the much longer Pumpkinvine Nature Trail.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Wilden Avenue Trail can be found on city streets in downtown Goshen and in Oakridge Park on N. 1st Street.

This trail is the continuation of the Pumpkinvine Trail into and through northern part of Goshen. It is paved, mostly concrete, fairly narrow, like a side walk, and west of the Oakridge Cemetery it becomes a side walk. It connects with the Mapleheart Trail leading towards Elkhart.

We started at Abshire Park in Goshen, thinking we were on the Pumpkin Vine Trail, but we were really heading toward the Wilden Trail. This trail is really more of a commuter trail. Definitely not scenic. Hold your nose as you pass the water treatment facility. After that you are just on a broad sidewalk that is along side a busy highway. We got tired of the traffic and turned around. Back at the park, we headed toward the sign that said Shipshewanna. We were finally on the actual Pumpkin Vine at that point. Very pretty, no traffic, lots of beautiful scenery. Even though some of it was gravel, it was fine gravel and densely packed. More and better signage would be a help to those of us who are not familiar with the area. As we were leaving, a fellow cyclist was just starting and he had to ask us for directions. I was glad we were able to lead him in the right direction.
