This is a mixed use trail and goes along Miami Beach. Southern part is very crowded, lots of pedestrians and other bikers. Don't expect racing speeds, I managed 7 mph. Towards middle and north the trail becomes more enjoyable for cyclists. You can cross to the island to the north across the bridge (use sidewalk) and continue for another mile or so.
Fern Nature Center is a real, off road trail (with some big intersections but that’s Florida) going west follows a canal on an 8-10 ft concrete path in very good condition. Pleasant views and will do again. Going east however is just an amalgam of sidewalks and unprotected bike lanes on busy roads that aren’t largely even pleasant to drive on.
Altho it runs by a canal, there are undulating curves which improves on the monotony of a linear path. I parked at the northern end, the totally charming Wellby Park (bathrooms by the field on west end and over the footbridge to the east end). There is a gate on the western side to access the N-S running bike trail (gate is not on the map). Trail switches and sides a couple of times and the major intersections are long and dreary
A very calm neighborhood. The trail is well taken care of for both walking or bicycling. A great place where to relax and take it easy. The only tip would be to organize some parking
The train is in a calm location even if the road is very close by. What is also fascinating is the amount of animals you can see on the trail. All sort of birds, fishes and dogs
On the entire train there are different areas with some type of activities happening. Cruisers leaving Miami in the South, people playing beach volleyball or paddle, dog walking etc Is very well taken care of and there are new areas just reopened in the mid/north beach
Portion from Everglades to Fern Forest is in very good shape. Easy traffic crossing. Back and forth 24 Km
Best parking: at the end of the trail : 2021. SW 29th Street Delray No parking at the University
Nice and interesting area for a ride. Narrow and few road crossings. Slower pace and not a spot for a higher pace workout ride. Several turns, not a problem if you have a good map memory or mounted phone.
This is really not a bike trail. 4-5’ width and crossing at least 5 major roadways. 4 of 5 area drivers have contempt for bikers. Great path for the area neighbors to exercise.
