This is a very nice short trail running from the Detroit River out to the Train Station. In early 2024 the West Riverfront Park is under construction so entrance to this trail on the south end by the river is tricky to find, you enter from Jefferson Avenue. Nice to see the Detroit Riverwalk growing in length each year. One of the nicest river fronts in the country.
just walked this trail earlier today some spots on trail was a muddy mess, it's a gravel trail... Other then that not a bad trail.
This trail starts at Whitmore Lake and goes all the way to Jackson prison. The trail is mostly crushed limestone which is smooth and flat. Nice scenery the whole way. The trail goes very close to the prison. You can even see the inmates exercising in the yard. It was like a movie set.
Nicely maintained trail with benches along the way. Lots of geocaches along this trail too.
I tried the trail for the first time today. I started at the parking lot off Barton. As I entered the city, I found it very confusing. Various trails ended up on city streets with no indication of where the trail picked up again. I finally was able to find my way to the long stretch along the river. More markings are needed, especially where the trail branches off, to help guide us on the right direction!
Great ride today. Rode the entire trail and back. Terrific surface overall. Tony’s in St Charles had good chili and Italian bread
We rode today from Ionia to Pewoma. The trail was cleared from the trees that were down in August. It was a beautiful ride with the leaves starting to fall. About 22 miles out and back!
Whether you’re walking or biking, this trail is a smooth path, mostly paved, and filled with wildlife and gorgeous wildflowers, water, and benches for a rest or talk! The overpass over the highway, is a great option for a cycling challenge, on this mostly flat ride.
Did this trail for the first time today. Very nice, but short. We started from the parking lot of Ray's Bike Shop. Out to the end of the trail and back to Ray's was just under 13 miles.
I rode the entirety of the Macomb Orchard Trail starting in Rochester and ending in Richmond. I rode on a very hot early September day and found that the trail was mostly shaded and provided good respite from the intense sun. The trail is in very good condition, is well marked and the towns along the trail provide options for food and refreshments.
There are many road crossings especially when starting in Rochester. It was fairly easy to find the trail but you will have to cross busy intersections which will force you to stop and wait for traffic signals. The road crossings do become less frequent halfway to Richmond but they are frequent enough to disrupt you from a nice, steady cadence.
Along with more frequent road crossings in the first miles from Rochester the scenery is mostly residential at first. Around mile 10 or 11 there is a welcome shift to more rural and wooded scenery. I would rate the ride from Romeo to Richmond a 5/5 with the ride from Rochester to Romeo a 3/5.
