Originally built in 1786, Historic Fort Steuben protected surveyors as they created a map of the Northwest Territory. The fort’s location along the Ohio River made it easy for troops and settlers to travel to the area, developing the town now known as Steubenville.
The current site of Historic Fort Steuben is a reconstruction of the fort managed by the Old Fort Steuben Project. Throughout the year, educational tours and events for all ages are held on the grounds. More information can be found on the fort website.
