New Trail Reviews

I started in Ford City and rode all the way up to the Brady Tunnel. The tunnel has overhead lights but I would bring a headlight just in case. Pack drinks and snacks because there is nothing else till you get to Bradys Bend if you go that far .Make sure you have a spare inner tube just in case. The trail is very well maintained some paved sections in Kittanning have a lot of tree roots sticking up…. The Bike Lab in Kittanning 724 -919-0308 is a newer bicycle shop in town .There is a Foxes Pizza right along the trail in town plus a Dunkin Donuts.

Not the best for single women to walk alone. So take a friend a stick or some maze if you do! Better for riding bikes.

We rode this stretch out and back on September 15, 2025. The trail is flat and in good shape except for the numerous bridges (10 or 12) which are in pretty bad shape. It’s obvious that a few repairs were recently attempted, but those amount to replacement of a few boards in each bridge. Some bridges are very long and all are super bumpy. If you have an older bike I’d suggest walking it across the longer bridges. Otherwise the scenery is nice and there’s great rest areas with flush toilets in LaValle, Wonewoc and Elroy.

Forgot.. it’s quite hilly! ¿ Curvy too.. The asphalt in Caspian is a bit rough but the trails are worth it!

I just completed the entire GAP. It was well worth it. The trail was in good shape and there was not too much traffic. I’d like to do it again.

I’m not sure why there’s no reviews for this trail, but it’s very pretty with lots of history. It seems short, but on the Caspian end it hooks up with Heritage Trail taking you to Pentoga Park. It’s just over 9 miles one way. Very scenic and pretty (especially in Fall) runs along the road and crosses it several times. Whole way is paved with shady spots and benches.

We parked at Saguaro National Park and road to Broadway. It was downhill to Broadway, then a steady uphill climb back to the parking area. With most roadway trails, there are a handful of road crossings.

We rode this whole trail (16+miles) on 9/14/25. The trail was amazing. There are a few spots with a significant amount of small gravel when my e-bike sunk into the gravel. Overall the trail was in great shape it the ride was truly enjoyable.

Super fun trail along the Columbia River. Our fat tire bikes did great and we enjoyed the trek with the beautiful scenery and wildlife. A little overgrown in some places, but not horrible by any stretch!

Pretty and peaceful. It’s paved in Phelps but turns to gravel not longer after. Shaded mostly. I’m sure the tamaracks are really pretty in Fall. The ice cream store in Phelps is open till mid Sept, awesome place to get ice cream n baked goods after your ride.

Unless you have a fat tire and don’t mind ATVs have at it. I tried with my gravel bike and turned back after about 50 feet.

We have cycled in all 50 states and definitely feel this trail is in the top 5 of all our rides. Between the well marked and maintained path, the tree lanes and open fields, the simple lifestyle and presence of the Amish, this trail is a joy to experience. A must do!

This September weekend provided the opportunity to experience the Thermal Belt Trail, after learning of it several months ago. Wife, youngest son, & I had been looking forward to our first trip on this rail trail. We found a small campground near the northern terminus of the trail & planned our trip. The Thermal Belt was a very nice ride, a good mix of nature & urban corridor. We set out mid morning on Saturday 9/13 & got to Forest City around lunchtime & discovered the Copper Penny on Main Street, just a few blocks from the trail, as a great meal break. Following lunch, wife explored Forest City, while son & I completed the Thermal Belt to the southern endpoint. The only complaint I have to offer is the placement of bollards at every street crossing. Most of the bollards are a series of 2 side by side, rather than a single bollard, which seem to be the norm on most other rail trails that we've ridden. I was worried that my son, an adult with special needs would have an issue with the bollards. My concerns were realized during our return segment, when he struck one of the bollards with his trike bike, which overturned. Fortunately, he was unhurt and our ride continued. Not sure if the dual bollards were any more effective than singles, as there still seemed to be room for a vehicle to make its way onto the trail. We also were pleased to meet a Sheriff's vehicle patrolling along the trail during our ride. Trail is well paved & smooth & does have long slight uphill & downhill stretches, but not taxing at all. A very good time, we'll likely return

This is just a short trip from point beach down to two rivers but it’s a fun trail to run. Many small rolling hills and curves! We have e-bikes so not much of a work out but it sure is a fun trail. By far my favorite little trail this year!

Amazing find, highly recommend this trail!
