ACORN Trail Description

The beauty of the ACORN Trail is it can be used for both leisure and transportation; cyclists, walkers, dog-walkers and other users can take advantage of the paved pathway to get outside, have fun and remain fit. But the trail also connects to dozens of destinations as it loops round the city, from parks, to schools, to businesses.

The trail & sidewalk system is nearly 8 miles long, with a west-east segment running from the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center along Main Street. This stretch cuts right through the middle of the Central Business District and connects to the campus of the Missouri University of Science and Technology as well as to Ber Juan Park, 85-acres of walking trails, athletic fields and open grassland.

The loop portion begins just east of Ber Juan Park, where the trail pivots south along Forum Road and Pine Tree Road, past a mix of homes and schools, down to Southview Park. The trail cuts through Southview Park, where you can find parking and benches, heading northwest through Veterans Memorial Park and Green Acres Park and then back through the Central Business District.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking options include:

  • Buehler Park (on Fairgrounds Road)
  • Ber Juan Park (1200 Holloway St)
  • Green Acres Park (42 Green Acres Dr)
  • Southview Park (at the corner of Winchester Drive and Pine Tree Road)

ACORN Trail Reviews

Has a lot of potential, but I’d give 3 stars

The Acorn Trail is not what I would call a trail, but more of a sidewalk route around Rolla. Even though there are sections of the trail that are wide and nice for biking, much of the trail has hazards such as cracks, curbs, fire hydrants, and uneven pavement. The only off road portion through Southview Park is about two miles in length. The rest is of the route is on sidewalks that are often narrow. From the signage, it appears that the city of Rolla is slowly adding to the Acorn Trail
