Ada Walking Trail Description

The Ada Walking Trail is a short but beautiful gem of a trail, providing a spacious off-road route from downtown Ada out to the local high school. The majority of the trail was built on the site of a former railroad line, and the city of Ada has worked hard to make the trail as inviting as possible by installing lampposts, benches, and adding hand-rails to several sections to improve accessibility. Popular among dog-walkers and joggers, the trail also provides a convenient off-road means for local students to walk or bike to the high school.

Beginning in the north, where a now-defunct railroad spur once serviced area businesses, the trail starts on 12th Street, just a block south of the city's charming Main Street. The trail heads south on a lovely tree-lined corridor, passing under the 14th Street bridge which once spanned over the railroad tracks. Passing alongside several neighborhoods to the east and west, the trail enters into a more secluded and wooded environment, providing a dose of natural tranquility within easy reach of the city - keep your eye out for deer or even the occasional wild turkey. The trail reaches Kerr Lab Road, where a marked crossing allows users to continue along the path on the eastern side of the road, before the trail splits off and heads east, crossing a small creek and passing by a series of tennis courts. One more road crossing, and the trail comes to an end at S Stadium Drive, just across from the high school and the school's athletic fields.

Parking and Trail Access

Street parking is available near the trail's northern trailhead on S Constant Avenue, about a half block to the west of the trail entrance; be sure to follow any posted parking signs. Parking may also be available at the southern end of the trail in the high school lot.

To reach the northern trailhead from the Oklahoma City area, take Interstate 40 east, then use exit 181 to take US 177 south. Continue on US 177, then take State Route 3W east towards Ada. Continue on SR 3W until the road becomes Main Street in Ada. Take a right onto S Constant Ave. and then a left onto E 12th Street - the trail entrance will be on the right.

Ada Walking Trail Reviews

Great ride during the day...

I ride this trail to work most days. It is not a long ride, but the pathway is well maintained. It is surrounded by woods with a few interesting rock formations. The only negative is the city hasn’t maintained the streetlights that line the path, so its only usable during the day.
