A mixture of narrower concrete sidewalk and twelve-foot wide asphalt pathway, the Alameda Trail provides an important off-road connection between two of the brightest stars in Albuquerque's constellation of trails, the Paseo del Bosque Trail and the North Diversion Channel Trail. While nowhere near as appealing as a destination trail as the trails that it helps link, the Alameda Trail makes a huge difference in your ability to walk and bike across this stretch of northern Albuquerque.
Before the completion of the trail in 2012, it was quite difficult to head east from the end of the Paseo del Bosque Trail; while the Alameda Trail still requires you to make a good number of road crossings, it provides bridges over Edith Boulevard and the North Diversion Channel, helping to erase them as barriers along the route. The trail comes to an end just past the channel, where the Balloon Museum Trail continues north for those who wish to visit one of Albuquerque's signature attractions.
Parking is available at the western end of the trail at the trailhead for the Paseo del Bosque Trail, located off of Alameda Boulevard just west of Rio Grande Boulevard.
