Built on the former Milwaukee Railroad right-of-way and located in the heart of the city of Spokane Valley, the Appleway Trail is a paved, multi-use pathway that runs parallel to, and just south of Sprague Avenue. The section of the Trail between University Road and Evergreen Road is complete and is already a popular location for walkers, runners, bicyclists and families, who can enjoy strolling along the outdoors along a lighted, safe and easily accessible pathway away from busy traffic.
The eastern section of the Trail that runs along the south side of Appleway from Corbin eastward to the city limits is also well-used. The section of the Trail from Sullivan to Corbin is scheduled for construction in 2018. Construction of the section from Balfour Park and Spokane Valley City Hall to University is tentatively scheduled for 2019 with the final segment from Evergreen to Sullivan anticipated for construction in 2020. A variety of businesses, shops and restaurants can easily be accessed along Sprague Avenue just north of the trail, as well as the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum. Signs along Sprague Avenue indicate a variety of locations where users can park for free near Trail access points.
Four blocks from the trail's western terminus on University Road, parking is available at Balfour Park (105 N. Balfour Road). You can reach the trail from the park by traveling along sidewalks.
Beautiful, no homeless, gang tags, excessive graffiti or garbage. Pure nature at its best!
