The Applewood Trail connects Mott Community College and several city parks with the lengthy Flint River Trail, the backbone of the Flint area's trail network. The trail runs along the roadway through the community college's campus, providing easy off-road access to nearby residents to the school and important civic sites like the Flint Public Libary and Flint Institute of Arts. Following the course of Gilkey Creek as it leads into the river, the Applewood Trail heads through pleasant acres of open space in Kearsley and Dayton Parks, recreation sites that are popular among the adjacent neighborhoods. At its northern end, the trail meets the Flint River Trail and its namesake waterway, which enables trail users to head south into downtown Flint or continue north to even more area parks like Bluebell Beach.
Parking is available along the trail at Kearsley Park, via the park lot off of Kearsley Park Boulevard south of Ohio Avenue. Additional parking may be found on the campus of Mott Community College, or at the nearby public library lot; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
A nice trail used by walkers, runners, students, locals, as well as cyclists. It connects to the ever expanding Flint area trail system and is a nice way to tour the Flint area by trail.
