Ashokan Reservoir Promenade Description

With vistas of the Catskill Mountains and a vast blue lake, the Ashokan Reservoir Promenade is a stunner. The paved pathway begins in Olivebridge, a hamlet in southeastern New York, and spans just shy of 3 miles along the reservoir's southern shoreline. Along the way, you might see bald eagles or deer on the forested slopes that surround the trail. Leave your pet home as there are no dogs allowed on the Promenade.

Travelers can also explore the north side of the reservoir on the nearby Ashokan Rail Trail, where dogs are welcome.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at either end of the trail. On the trail's western tip, the parking lot is available off Route 28A, just west of its intersection with Route 213. To the east, a parking lot is available off BWS Road.

Ashokan Reservoir Promenade Reviews

Highly Recommend!

Rode my bike from parking lot to about 2.5 miles and then turned around. It is beautiful and a must see. I love that it doesn't allow cars. The views of the mountains are just ridiculous.

Wonderful Catskill Mountain views

I rode this short "trail" today in conjunction with the nearby Ashokan Rail Trail. There is no direct connection between the trails but it's an easy route on road to get from one to the other. Wonderful views of the Catskill Mountains and the Ashokan Resevoir that is created by the dam you are riding on top of.

Short but worth it

This is a short but amazing trail on the south side of the reservoir. The word is they will be opening a longer trail on the north side. It is absolutely beautiful and, although it is only a couple of miles, it took me over an hour due to all the photo ops along the way.

You won't regret this side trip.

Stunning Scenery

I live nearby and have biked and hiked this several times. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
It's not very long, but the scenery is outstanding. Fresh mountain breezes, good asphalt surface and sometimes the NYC water department runs a fountain nearby that blows cool water on hot days. Just do it.
