Audubon Loop Trail Description

The Audubon Loop Trail is only 2.5 miles in length, but is over four miles when adjacent sections of the Perkiomen and Schuylkill River trails are added. The trail begins in Lower Perkiomen Valley Park immediately south of the Egypt Road bridge over Perkiomen Creek. After crossing that bridge, it turns southeast, crossing the Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary and running behind local subdivisions. The trail turns southwest near the John Audubon home, paralleling Pawlings Road to the trailhead just south of Route 422, where it joins the Schuylkill River Trail. Trail users can easily loop back to the starting point by taking the Schuylkill River Trail west to Oaks, then going back north on the Perkiomen Trail.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at Lower Perkiomen Valley Park (101 New Mill Rd, Norristown) and off Pawlings Road.

Audubon Loop Trail Reviews

Feels like European palace gardens

This trail feels like European palace gardens and woodland . . . it has that "estate" feel to it. The drawbacks are the noise from cars and the very scary short segment on egypt road (they should put some form of barrier there, someone is going to die one day).
While the animal life in general is abundant if you come in June just after dark there are tons and tons of a rare species of synchronous firefly in the fields.

Great loop but pay attention

This was a great 2 hour hike when done as a loop with Schuylkill and Perkiomen trails. As mentioned in the other review, there is one steep uphill section if going clockwise. WATCH OUT... the turn off from the Schuylkill to Perkiomen trail is not marked if going clockwise. And the turn off from Perkiomen back to Audubon Loop is also easy to miss. Other than that, great experience, gentle slopes, and well paved.

Scenic treasure

We rode this trail on a weekday in the early afternoon and found it to be quite enjoyable. After crossing over the Perkiomen Creek on Egypt Road we turned onto the well marked and well maintained trail. Most of the trail is in or along the edge of a park so the scenery is pleasant. There is a steep climb less than a mile from the beginning of the ride, 120 feet of elevation gain in about 2 tenths of a mile. If you don't like steep climbs ride the loop counter-clockwise. This trail makes a great addition to a ride on either the Perkiomen Trail or the Schuylkill River Trail.
