Bay to Baker Trail (Bellingham) Description

The Bellingham segment of the Bay to Baker Trail runs for 1.4 miles along an abandoned railroad right-of-way between Little Squalicum Park on Bellingham Bay and Northwest Avenue. The trail is sand and gravel from the bay shore to the Northwest Avenue bridge over Squalicum Way. Trail users can continue on-road for less than 1 mile to Cornwall Park on Meridian Street.

The Bay to Baker Trail will cover 74 miles when complete, running between Bellingham and the Mount Baker ski area. Another 7-mile segment between Maple Falls and Glacier is complete, and an additional mile has been built in the small town of Everson.

In the near future, Bellingham plans to extend the trail east from Northwest Avenue to Hannegan Road, passing under Interstate 5 and north of two small lakes.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the trail is available at the intersection of W. Illinois Street and Marine Drive and at Bellingham Parks and Recreation (across Meridian Street from the trail). You can also park at Squalicum Creek Park (West Street at Squalicum Way; the trail is at the far end of the park from the parking lot).
