Bayway Trail Description

The Bayway Trail is a 3.7-mile non-motorized trail between St. Petersburg and St. Pete Beach, Florida. The trail begins its westward journey near the St. Petersburg southwest wastewater treatment plant, an inauspicious beginning but don’t let it put you off. The trail is smooth and well-maintained, lined with hefty palm trees. Plus the scenery continually improves as you head west. Paralleling Pinellas Bay (CR 682/ 679 / 54th Ave.), the trail passes mutliple coral-colored residential developments and crosses the bay thrice. One crossing takes you to an islet that is mostly condominiums and single-family homes. The second crossing takes to to Isla del Sol, which hosts a country club and marina. The third crossing takes you into St. Pete’s and it is worth your while to stop here and take in the inviting azure of the Boca Ciega Bay.

The trail makes a good out-and-back excursion for users looking to work out or explore the area.

Parking and Trail Access

There is no dedicated parking for this trail. Users who live nearby can access the trail on foot or by bike at street intersections.

Bayway Trail Reviews

short but sweet

Nice, short ride. Close to the water so there was a great breeze. Very easy ride.

Good trail for a simple out and back. Pavement a little rough near the beginning but it gets better. Warning to skaters that the last bridge is very steep.

Only Downside is the Sewage Plant

A good trail that passes over the Bayway bridges and through some nice scenery. The only bad part is near the east end of the trail where it passes the sewage treatment facility. The smell can be pretty bad, but it’s survivable. It also connects to the Skyway Trail, which you can take to the Pinellas Trail to the North or toward the Skyway Bridge Trail to the South (there is a gap between the Skyway and Skyway Bridge trails). 5 stars for connectivity, but minus 2 stars for the smell.
