Beaver Creek Greenway Description

Beaver Creek Greenway offers a pleasant, paved route in the community of Apex, a western suburb of Raleigh. Much of the trail is wooded and it connects two parks, Kelly Road Park and Jaycee Park. The trail’s east end is not far from the town’s quaint downtown, which is centered around Salem Street. Its west end is about 2 miles (on-road) from the American Tobacco Trail, which heads 22 miles north to Durham.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available on the west end of the trail at Kelly Road Park (1609 Kelly Road) and on the trail’s east end at Jaycee Park (451 NC Highway 55).

Novice riders

We selected this trail for our first ride. It wasn't bad for first timers. Few flat places with standing water. Good balance of hills and straightaways. We rode about 1.5 miles in from Kelly Rd and back.

Decent trail but wet

As another reviewer said, Kelly Road Park is at a lower elevation than Apex Jaycee Park. You can use that information to select your starting point based on your preference. I started at Kelly Road Park to have the return trip more downhill than up.

It's definitely good that the trail is paved. I would have lost the trail a couple times otherwise. There is an unmarked turn toward the Apex Jaycee Park end of the trail; the trail turns up the hill and goes through a neighborhood on the sidewalk, but there is a paved section that continues straight. I didn't follow to see where that went.

The drainage is horrible. The trail has several flat sections (truly flat, not slanted to allow runoff) that collected standing water over an inch deep. The sides were muddy in those places, so it was get wet or get muddy.

There were also a few places with a foul odor, much like sewage.

Because it was wet, the trail was also very slippery in places, so use caution. Particularly the asphalt and wood sections. The concrete had much better grip.

Great trail, good work out coming back from Kelly Park, it is mostly up hill, the trail is clean and full of nature.
