Blue River Parkway Trail Description

The Blue River Parkway Trail winds along both banks of its namesake river on the southern outskirts of Kansas City. The paved route begins in Minor Park and heads north, passing Alex George Lake and Blue River Park, before ending at E 95th Street.

At its northern end, the trail connects to the Indian Creek Bike/Hike Trail, which continues southwest from where the two trails meet (near the confluence of Indian Creek and the Blue River) for 26 miles to Olathe, Kansas.

Parking and Trail Access

On its southern end, parking is provided in Minor Park. Farther north, you’ll find another parking lot at the entrance to Alex George Lake and also at Blue River Park.

Blue River Parkway Trail Reviews

Great inline skating path

This is a great skating path for KC. Lots of great little hills and nice workout. There is one wood bridge that’s a little rough on the skates

Swope Park (wudchuck run)

This was my 2nd day riding wudchuck run trail in swope park, i have to say, very challenging! Sometimes you have to carry your bike over bolders but other then then that it was a great workout. once you got on some stretches going downhill they had nice subtle jumps on smooth trails... if you just got into mountain biking for exercise, i wouldn't try this trail. go to infian creek traill system instead. Hope This Helps! Stay Safe....

Primary connector piece to a much bigger trail network

KCMO did this trail well, and it is an important foundational piece. As the Blue River Parkway trail expands, this section already connects the Tomahawk and Indian Creek Trails to the west, and will eventually extend downstream toward the Stadiums, which will connect it with the Henry Wiggins Trolley Track Trail on its way, and ultimately the Rock Island Spur of the Katy Trail State Park. To the south, it will further extend along the Blue River into Johnson County, and eventually networks being built there for the Coffee Creek Trail.

Nice Trail and It Is Expanding

Kansas City is doing an excellent job in building this trail. They just opened the bridge over Indian Creek and it is supposed to take you close to the Plaza. The trail is not open too much north of Indian Creek but with the money spent on the bridge it will have to go somewhere nice.
