Bosque River Trail Description

The Bosque River Trail is a natural escape only steps from the downtown district in Stephenville, TX. The concrete, two-lane trail takes users through verdant woods and across green fields, along the north bank of the scenic Bosque River. It's no surprise then that the trail is popular with visitors ranging from dog-walkers to early morning runners. The trail is great for families too. Animal prints sandblasted onto the trail surface hint at the wildlife you can expect to see on your trek - turkeys, deer, opossum, armadillos and raccoons.

The trail begins in Stephenville City Park and heads east, ducking under Graham Avenue. You may be able to catch a glimpse of the river through the trees, though there are also lookouts with better river views available along the trail. Benches placed at intervals invite users to rest or simply pause on their journey. The trail heads up to Crow Street and then parallels Minter and Long streets. The meets the river again and curves up towards Tarleton Street, passing the Stephenville Historical House Museum, both of which have trail access points. The pathway continues north from there, crossing under roads and across railroad tracks to its endpoint near Lingleville Road (FM 8).

With its proximity to downtown and its natural beauty, the Bosque River Trail will continue to be a popular Stephenville attraction. There are plans to expand the trail to a total of 8.2 miles, ending at Jaycee Park.

Parking and Trail Access

There is plenty of parking to be found in City Park (709 Riverside Dr, Stephenville).
