Boyle Rail-Trail Description

One of a handful of western Mississippi communities to salvage a benefit from the abandonment of a 50-mile railroad corridor between Cleveland and Hollandale in 1999, Boyle railbanked the portion of the line through their town to provide a paved trail for local residents. The corridor was originally built by the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad before being merged into the Illinois Central Railroad and ultimately ending up under the control of the Columbus and Greenville Railway.

The Boyle Rail-Trail is open in two disconnected segments separated by T.M. Jones Highway/State Route 446. Both portions run north to south between Tims Avenue and Illinois Central Avenue with few road crossings and benches available at the trailheads.

Other trails on the same former rail corridor include Cleveland's Crosstie Walk, the Renova Heritage Walking Trail, Shelby Trails and Duncan Walking Trail to the north and the Shaw Rail-Trail and Hollandale Rail-Trail to the south.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Boyle Rail-Trail is available at trailheads on either side of T.M. Jones Highway/SR 446 between Tims Avenue and Illinois Central Avenue. Boyle is located off US 61/278 just south of Cleveland.

Boyle Rail-Trail Reviews

The Boyle Rail Trail is a basic straight path between town streets. The two sections are separated by a lightly traveled road with the north section bein very short. A couple of nice benches made for a pleasant stop.
