Print Friendly MapLocated in northern Manheim Township, the Brighton-Reidenbaugh Park Trail is a link in the suburban Lancaster County municipality's growing network of multi-use trails.
The trail consists of 3 segments of paved, mostly level pathways separated by brief sections of on-street concurrencies. These on-road segments are in residential communities along local streets with slow traffic. Signage, unfortunately, is poor, so trail users are encouraged to follow a map of the greenway system that is available on the township website.
After briefly following Erbs Quarry Road past a small shopping center and day care center, the trail crosses that road and turns east, passing between homes in the Brighton subdivision. Many of these homes have creatively landscaped yards, and can be very picturesque in the spring and summer months.
The first on-street concurrency begins at Dorset Street. Eastbound trail users should go left on this street, then make an immediate right onto Wheatfield Drive. The trail makes a sharp turn east after about 300 feet, heading back offroad and crossing a small stream into the Stonehenge development.
After entering the Stonehenge development, a high-income neighborhood with stately mansions, the second on-street concurrency follows Stonehenge and Bluestone drives to the west side of Reidenbaugh Park. The trail turns back east and crosses the park, ending at Buckwalter Road just south of Reidenbaugh Elementary School. A farm typical of the ones that can still be found through much of Lancaster County can be seen just south of the eastern terminus.
Parking is available at Reidenbaugh Park and at the shopping center at Brighton.
This is one of 14 trails that we have ridden that, including the connecting road sections, totaled around 35 miles. Several of the trails are not named and some of the road sections can be busy. I was able to use Traillink.com maps to create this route. Starting at the Landis Valley Farm Museum and the Manheim Township Trail then to Stoner ark , beside Eden Road, through the Lancaster Bible College, Overlook Park, the Heritage Trail, the Kissel Hill Commons Trail, around the Manheim Township Athletic Complex, the Manheim Township Community Park Trail, Warwick Township Highlands Trail, along Bachman Run, the Brighton-Reidenbaugh Park Trail and through some of the trails around the Manheim Township High School. Since first doing this ride, I've added 6 short trails to the ride. I ridden this route with several of my friends ranging in age from 60s to mid 70s.
We rode the three short sections of trail and the very quiet neighborhood streets that connected them late on a Wednesday morning. We saw more people walking dogs then we did cars on the street sections. We also rode to the nearby Manheim Township Community Park Trail about 1.5 miles away. There were two busy roads, Buchwalter Road and Koser Road, together they totaled less than 1/2 mile, the rest of the road section was very quiet neighborhood streets. These trails are just minutes (by car) to several other short trails that dot that area. Our total ride was just 7.3 miles. I can't wait to take some of my biking friends on these short but sweet trails.
