Buckhorn Creek Trail Description

The Buckhorn Creek Trail is an 4-mile trail in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. The trail occupies the right-of-way of the former Cleveland and Mahoning Valley Railroad in Newcomerstown and will someday extend 8 miles to Stone Creek in the north. The rail trail follows Buckhorn Creek, taking users through a thickly wooded corridor that clears to offer sweeping views of the surrounding farmlands. Walkers and mountain bikers are welcome to use the crushed stone trail, though the surface may be rougher and uneven at points.

The Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition oversees the maintenance of the trail, with the help of the county and enthusiastic volunteers, including the Rotary Club of Newcomerstown.

Parking and Trail Access

A gravel parking lot is located at the Newcomerstown trailhead, at the south end of the trail. The trailhead features offers bike parking, seating and a trash receptacle. A penny farthing sculpture is found at the entrance to the trail.

Great Trail

This is an excellent trail that is well maintained. The trail follows the creek and the views are that if typical Tuscarawas County farmland.
