Plentiful parking is available in the Smithfield Community Park (off E. Booker Dairy Road) at the northern end of the trail.
Trail still closed about a mile down but nice and shady. Bathrooms at playground at Community Center entrance.
The trail was closed at several spots along the way. Also the start in the Community Center was difficult to find. It is also near a sewage treatment plant so the smell wasn’t fantastic.
Took my kids in this trail, we walked the whole trail and back again in a few hours. Very well maintained and clean. Mostly flat with a few small slopes. Partly sun and shady, woods, creek and river views, a little waterfall, wooden bridges, nice parks at both ends, with ample parking.
Our family just purchased new bikes and this was the first trail we rode together. It is shaded and quiet. It was just long enough for a beginning ride. We will definitely do it again!
Greenway has overgrown trees hanging over in the path. Grass is high on side of path. Reason for keeping grass cut weekly is so snakes can be seen. Boards on bridges are sticking up. ( Dangerous for cyclist and more for runners.)
It is a nice greenway and we enjoy riding it. Town just needs to take more pride in it other than just ham and yam time each year.
Would have been a five star but the start at the Community Center was not well marked. The end of the Trail in Smithfield was next to the main drag where I found a nice deli. Will be back I love Smithfield!
As someone else mentioned, the trail does seem to go by a water treatment plant, so there are some foul smelling spots. Also, there was a bit of water across the trail in other areas, so a few drainage pipes would be a good improvement.
It is Thanksgiving day which could be a factor, but there were not very many people there. It was quiet and a very pleasant walk.
Great walking trail for those in Wilson area... Entire trail is paved so very friendly for stroller usage.
Smooth asphalt surface, well-maintained, wooded without being monotonous. Gentle grades and several wooden bridges. The one small negative is that the trail goes by what seems to be a water treatment plant.
As an RA patient, finding smooth level trails that I can enjoy with my family is a blessing. This was not crowded, well maintained, and we had a great time!
