Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail Description

The Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail provides a 2-mile moderately challenging hike or mountain bike ride in the rural community of Mount Pleasant, about 30 miles northeast of Charlotte. The unpaved trail winds through a 393-acre preserve with views of a restored piedmont-oak savanna, agricultural fields, and pine woodlands along Adams Creek. The preserve is managed by Catawba Lands Conservancy and provides important habitats for many bird species.

The trail is also part of the Carolina Thread Trail, a growing regional network spanning more than 250 miles of trail.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the western trailhead (7911 Malibu Road, Mt. Pleasant); in the parking lot, look for a Carolina Thread Trail sign designating the trail access point.

Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail Reviews

Not Kid Friendly

It definitely is not kid friendly. There are too many roots, holes, and giant rocks to use a stroller and my 5 year old kept tripping over it all we didn’t make it a very far before we had to turn around. We will come back just not with the little ones.

Buffalo Creek

I was disappointed in the trail. If you are going to hike this plan to come way after a rain. It was extremely muddy and therefore getting quite eroded. The biggest disappointment was the human impact as far as first trash and then once I made it to a beautiful deciduous forest with gorgeous beech trees, if these beautiful trees were within a few feet of the trail they were defaced. Come on people!

Only a one way trip

Enjoyed the walk, but this trail does not loop. When you get to the end there's a sign that says this is the end of the trail(it meets a stone road, so you think you can loop), but, you must turn around. Half of the trail has been clear cut of trees with no shade; weeds too high to see much in that area. You could easily loop back out around Mt. Pleasant rd if biking. Definately an easy mountain bike trail.

Great Hiking and Biking

This trail is very mixed. There a level portions of the trails and then there are hilly portions. There is a stretch that has no cover and during the middle of summer, quite hot, so bring a bottle of water. Lots of interesting things to see and you do walk across a rope supported bridge which does bonce as you walk and an excellent view of the river.

enjoyable

Family friendly my kiddos had fun playing in the Creek¿¿ and it's stroller friendly¿¿

Good trail

It was a nice mix of hills and flat ground. Not strenuous at all. It is dog friendly but they might not be willing to cross the suspension bridge. It was definitely popular when we went on a Sunday. You can access the creek along the trail of you want to play in the water.

Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail

Love the diverse topography of this trail! My lab and I love exploring along the creek and in the fall, the color is full of yellows, oranges, browns and some beautiful reds! Also a nice mix up of easy and moderate hiking.

Awesome Trail

This trail was moderate in difficulty but the scenery was very nice. The best part was that there was not a lot of people here and the suspension bridge was an added bonus
