Bushkill Township Trail Description

Bushkill Township Trail is a rail-trail occupying what was the right-of-way of the Slate Belt Electric Trolley. The official trailhead is on Moorestown Road; a gravel lot with a burgundy sign marks the spot where the trail begins. Mature trees, bushes and wildflowers crowd the gravel trail as it heads south along Sobers Run. Wooden utility poles and flat-top benches repeat at intervals. The trail is serene and immersive. The sounds of nature and glimpses of wildlife are your companions. The trail concludes on Belfast Road, across the road from the trailhead for the trails in Jacobsburg State Park. In the future, it is hoped that the trail will be extended to connect to Ballas Park along Kromer Road.

At the trail's southern end, trail users can continue along a number of loop trails in the Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking can be found on both ends of the trail.

The north parking area is on E. Moorestown Road (301-, 357 E Moorestown Rd, Wind Gap, PA 18091). On the south end you can park at the Sobers Run Trail trailhead in Jacobsurg State Park.

See TrailLink Map for detailed directions.

Bushkill Township Trail Reviews

Not the Slate Belt Trolley

The rail bed can be taken for over 3 miles since the day it opened as it's an extension of the segment in Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center, and it was the Nazareth Branch of the Lehigh and New England Railroad, not a trolley line. There are many connections via Jacobsburg as well as a connection to Ballas Park making it more worthwhile than comments would suggest.

Fairly Flat Gravel Trail

Nice enough trail. We like to park at the Sober's Run Trailhead at Jacobsburg and sometimes do an out and back along the Bushkill Twp Trail for a little variety but Jacobsburg is so beautiful we usually just do Sober's Run.

Short and Mellow

While nobody’s going to rave about a two-mile trail, the Bushkill offers a pleasant, easy entry into Jacobsburg State Park, with additional trails for exploring inside the park. For maximum variety, start your ride or hike from the well identified Moorestown Road trailhead. The Bushkill is short and mellow and is best used as a connector trail to Jacobsburg.

Plain Jane

Not much to look at. One straight shot without much shade along the pathway. Terrain was flat and solid so it was an easy walk, just not that interesting or pretty.
