Centennial Trail (CA) Description

The Centennial Trail is located in the Tri-Valley city of Pleasanton, about 25 miles east of Oakland. This urban trail offers a 7.8 roundtrip on a combination of paved and unpaved track. The trail also makes useful connections to other area trails.

The Centennial Trail begins on the south side of I-580. An underpass heading north under the highway leads to the Alamo Canal Trail, which in turn connects to the Iron Horse Regional Trail. The Centennial Trail extends along South San Ramon Creek, which in turn parallels I-680. Waterfowl such as herons and geese can often be spotted frolicking in the water. At about the 1.7 mile mark, the trail meets the Arroyo Mocho Trail which peels off and heads east. That point also marks the end of the paved portion. Beyond the truss bike-ped bridge that spans the Arroyo, the rest of the trail's surface is gravel.

The Centennial Trail crosses over the Pleasanton Canal, which like the Arroyo before it, empties into the San Ramon Creek. The route is fairly straight, with only one major change of direction, where the trail curves eastwards along Arroyo Valle. The trail ends 3.9 miles from its start point.

Bear in mind that the trail has little to no shade so wear sun protection.
