Central Trail (FL) Description

The Central Trail is a linear park located within the utility corridor belonging to Florida Light & Power (FPL) in Broward County.

The trail exists in a series of disconnected segments. The southern section is a hard surface trail that winds underneath the power transmission lines between Johnson Street and Taft Road. Pembroke Pines' Craig Rupp K-9 Dog Park (9751 Johnson St, Pembroke Pines) is next to the trail's southern entrance on Johnson Street.

The middle segment is a short, unpaved path running through Rainbow Lakes Park between 19th Street and 23rd Street. Rainbow Lakes Park (9201 NW 19th St) has a playground, racquetball courts, and a looping 0.25-mile paved pathway.

The northern segment is a wide, concrete trail winding between Pine Island Road and Stirling Road. Benches are placed at regular intervals along the route and there is a playground next to the trail at 3340 NW 84th Way. About two-thirds of the way from the southern endpoint on Pine Island Road, the trail crosses Monterra Boulevard. There are tennis and basketball courts next to the trail just north of Monterra Boulevard. This section is likely accessible for those using mobility devices.

The trail is opened for non-motorized uses and other recreation facilities, like a dog park, basketball courts and handball courts, are located along the different trail segments.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the Pembroke Pines Dog Park (9751 Johnson St, Pembroke Pines) located at the southern end of the trail, off NW 39th Court (next to a park with covered pavilions and a small lake), at the northern end of the trail off Cascada Circle. Better walking trail

Narrow asphalt path with lots of walkers. Not sure where 2.2 miles came from. Even up and back was only 1.4. I did notice a patch south of the dog park as I was leaving.
