Clayton Connects Trail Description

Clayton Connects is an initiative to create a countywide network of recreational trails. In Jonesboro, the concrete multipurpose trail links International Park, Reid Park, the Lake Spivey Golf Club and the adjacent neighborhood.

A good place to begin is International Park, which offers free parking and contains a good chunk of the trail's mileage, also known as the International Park Path. The actual start point of the trail is west of the park, at the edge of a neighborhood at Waverly Drive and Walt Stephens Road. The concrete trail then enters International Park at Crane Road. One of the highlights is the Beach at International Park, a sandy beach around a 6-acre spring-fed swimming lake, complete with water slides and a kiddie pool. The beach was the site of the 1996 Olympic volleyball competition. Apart from that, the park offers fishing spots, children's play areas and picnic areas. The park has its own nature trails but the Clayton Connects Trail is twelve-feet wide concrete with a lane in either direction.

The trail, part of which parallels Walt Stephens Road, leaves International Park and cuts through Reid Park on its way to the Lake Spivey Golf Course - this section of trail was named the Joe Hamilton Recreation Trail, honoring the golf club owner for donating land to help build the pathway. Signage indicates that the trail at this point is open to golf carts in addition to walkers and cyclists, so exercise extra caution. The trail winds through the golf estate right up to the club house.

Future plans for the trail include continuing the pathway west along Walt Stephens Drive to the Jonesboro city limits, as well as north past Lake Spivey Parkway.

Parking and Trail Access

There are numerous parking lots available within the International Park (2300 Highway 138, Jonesboro, GA). On the east end, trail users can park at the Lake Spivey Trailhead, located at 8255 Clubhouse Way, Jonesboro, GA.

Awesome ride

Super easy ride for beginners and/or family ride. Highly recommend

I ride this trail often as it is near my so I can ride to it. It's a nice trail but we need more trails or bike paths to travel without being subjected to dangerous roadways.

I hadn't been riding in a while. It was an extremely pleasant ride.

Clayton County Int. Horse Park

I rate this trail as one of the easiest trails to ride, especially if you are a beginner to riding bike trails or just getting back into bike riding. No steep hills to deal with, and you get to ride at a good pace. Defiantly a trail kids and adults can ride with ease. You can even go around the trail a few different ways to extend your ride.
