Clearwater Memorial Causeway Trail Description

This trail connects the Pinellas Trail in Clearwater to Clearwater Beach across the Memorial Causeway. It is a wide trail, separated from traffic as it slopes up Memorial Causeway Bridge. The trail stays close to the water for most of its length before it enters Clearwater Beach. There are overlooks jutting out allowing trail users to pause and enjoy in the views of Clearwater Bay. Helpfully, there’s sheltered seating with trash receptacles provided at intervals.

Once the trail enters Clearwater Park it becomes significantly more crowded and you must be keen about following the trail as there may not be clear wayfinding signage at this point. The trail rounds the busy Pier 60 Park, which hosts a fishing pier and large playground, and then heads south along Gulfview Boulevard, past a series of beach resorts.

Parking and Trail Access

At the east endpoint of the trail, on the southwest corner of Turner Street & East Avenue.

There’s dedicated parking as well as seating and trash receptacles just after you get off the Causeway Bridge if you are approaching from Clearwater and heading towards Clearwater Beach.

There’s beach parking with bike racks and public restrooms at 430 Gulfview Boulevard at Clearwater Beach.

Clearwater Memorial Causeway Trail Reviews

review from a tourist

So I ran this trail back in August 2023. The pictures submitted here on this site are very inviting, however, not valid. Yes, there is a spiral around the area of the trail, however, it is NOT part of the trail. That being said, I ran the spiral down to what I thought was part of the trail, only to get lost and realize that I had to run back up the spiral to get to the actual trail which then crosses the bridge. The sights, however, are amazing and I can't wait to run this trail again when I return in the fall. Once you get across the bridge and closer to the beach, there is more traffic, so keep your eyes and ears open. Great trail. Lots of sunshine and wide paths and beautiful flowers.

Went rollerblading during the sunrise one day of my vacation and was definitely a highlight!

Great Trail to access Pinellas Trail

We loved staying in Clearwater Beach and using this trail to access the Pinellas Trail riding North one day and south the next. It’s pretty well signed if you watch closely. The only negative on the trail was that someone had cut the air hose on the air/tool station at the bottom of the bridge. Hopefully, it’s monitored and will get fixed soon. Great views from the top of the bridge!

Great Water Views

Be prepared for extended steep challenges as this ride goes up and down the big bridge heading to Clearwater Beach. Amazing views from the top make it worth the trip. Lots of traffic but the trail is off the road and very safe. Good for bird watching too.

Broad, Sweeping Causeway

The trail over the Clearwater Causeway is big and sweeping. It’s well signed. It’s definitely loud, busy, and along traffic. I really enjoyed moving at least twice as fast as the cars slowly making their way out to Clearwater Beach. The East section has steep climbs. This isn’t an “easy” ride. The stretch up onto the causeway is a spiraling corkscrew. Fun, but might make you just a little dizzy!
